Welcome Back to the Blog

Welcome back, everyone. It’s been a hot minute since I posted anything, but things have been busy around here.

Ian and I went home for the holidays, and our trip was extended by a few days after our return flight was cancelled. You’ll hear no complaints from me after getting to spend extra time with family :) It was so so so so so so so great to be able to come home and spend time with my sisters, my parents, my in-laws, a few socially distanced friends, and the nine doggos between everyone.

Sorry all of these photos are bad, but we were having too much fun laughing and being ridiculous together in a way only family can.

Let’s NOT take a moment to talk about how tall Sam is.

Holly is not happy about Sam getting taller either.

After a lovely Christmas back in Maryland, we had an extra week of staycation in Utah. We went to the zoo, snowshoed, and tried cross country skiing. Another couple we’re friends with convinced us to try cross country skiing with them, and let me tell you, I am hooked. I made Ian go with me two more times that week. Did we fall? Yes, a lot. Was it fun? So much fun. Until the third day of skiing when a large professional team from Alaska started skiing on the trails we were on. Then it was less fun, but other than that it was great.

I don’t like a lot of things about Utah but I do appreciate the nature and opportunities for adventure.

Please enjoy these videos of us falling :) These are from day one, so by day three we were doing much better.

After staycation we had to go back to reality and head back to work. This past week has been a real whirlwind because I immediately got sick after going back to work (supposedly not COVID just a bad head cold - Ian is not sick).

On top of that, my grandma Gloria died. It was a long time coming with her deteriorating physical health and lengthy battle with dementia, but still difficult news to take, especially being so far away from family. In high school, I wrote my college application essay about my grandma. She was a spitfire, stubborn but sweet. She’s finally in a better place, but she will be missed.

So now I’m sick, my grandma just died, and some much needed good news comes my way. I’M FINALLY GETTING OUT OF THE HORSE PLACE.

I spent an entire day over staycation applying for jobs and had gotten some traction on a couple of HR opportunities. One was for a drug recovery/rehab facility that seemed pretty cool, and I guess they thought that about me too because they offered me a job. It seems like a great opportunity to learn, the boss seems nice, twice as much PTO, and a significant pay raise. I really hope it doesn’t end up being terrible. I put in my two weeks’ notice and I’m not looking back. I have a lot respect for the ladies there for being so dedicated to doing what they love. It’s just not what I love.

Anyway, that’s all I got for now. If for no other reason than my switching jobs, there will be more frequent updates going forward. It’s not that the blog was chopped liver compared to spending quality time with my family, except that was exactly what happened. Don’t worry, though, I’m back in Utah and have no friends so I’ll have more free time to blog ;)

I don’t want to jinx anyone by wishing them a happy 2022, so instead I will say I hope you have a lovely day whatever day it is that you are reading this. Until next time!
